When Christmastown Took on Hallmark
In December 2019, Shelton and Mason County took on Hallmark—and made Christmas history of our own.
Historically known as the “Christmas Tree Capital of the World,” Shelton and Mason County celebrated our evergreen heritage with an attempt at the Guinness World Record for the Most Lit Christmas Trees in One Location. Hallmark had set the previous record in 2015 with 559 illuminated trees. Christmastown came back with 797. And we didn’t stop there.
Each year, our community has come together to recreate the illuminated tree maze in a new shape. We’ve built two giant Christmas trees, transformed the maze into the shape of Washington State with a heart marking Christmastown, and dreamed up new ways to make the walk through the forest a holiday tradition.
This year, the festive illuminated Christmas Tree Maze returns—with plenty of snow on open nights and we’re happy to bring back Camp Grisdale. Once again we’re leaning into our timber heritage and inviting Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox to host epic Christmas fun, with live music, holiday crafts, vendors, fire pits, family activities, and another larger-than-life favorite—Santa Claus! It’s a little bit Christmas, a little bit logging camp, and completely Mason County. Come wander the lights, warm up around the fire, make something with your hands, listen to some music, and celebrate Christmas the Mason County way.
