A Community Tradition, Growing in 2026
In December 2019, the Shelton Chamber of Commerce and a crew of community volunteers dreamed up a big idea: build a giant Christmas tree maze and take on the Guinness World Record for “Most Lit Trees in One Location.” They knew it would take a little Christmas magic—and a whole lot of teamwork.
Trees were donated, and countless community members rolled up their sleeves to cut, carry, stand, and string lights on more than 800 trees. When the final count was in, 797 illuminated trees lit up Christmastown, surpassing the previous record and proving what a community can accomplish when it comes together. But the real magic was never just about the record. Local volunteers helped verify the count, and for the following 12 days and nights, even more neighbors pitched in to create free holiday activities and family-friendly festivities. It was a remarkable outpouring of community spirit, generosity, and Christmas cheer.
That spirit lives on in Festival of the Firs. In 2026, we’re bringing back the illuminated Christmas Tree Maze and adding a new chapter to our story with Camp Grisdale, celebrating Mason County’s timber heritage with Paul Bunyan, Babe the Blue Ox, live music, crafts, vendors, fire pits, family activities, and plenty of holiday fun. Our goal remains the same: to bring people together, celebrate the place we call home, and create joyful holiday memories for residents and visitors alike—all while keeping the festivities free and welcoming.
Stay tuned, stay merry, and thank you for helping keep the spirit of Christmastown alive!
